About me

Mr. Roland Smith, originally from Houma, LA, graduated from Ellender Memorial High School and Magna Cum Laude from Northwestern State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. While attending NSU, he met his wife, Devon Smith, as a member of the Spirit of Northwestern. Married for nearly thirteen years now, they have a nine year old son, Brayden. After his first year of teaching at Mulberry Elementary School and Greenwood Middle School, he became Band Director at Pickering Jr./Sr. High School where he has been for fourteen years. The Pride of Pickering has won numerous awards since 2006, including consistent superior ratings at festivals, assessments, and competitions throughout the state in both concert and marching band, The Pride of Pickering Red Devil Marching Band has also won many Best in Class Awards. Mr. Smith is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the District V Band and Orchestra Directors Association, where he is currently serving his second term as President, Louisiana Music Educators Association, Louisiana Bandmasters Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Phi Beta Mu.
